“Don’t re-invent the wheel” was the best advice JS gave me when it came to teaching. I was 26 at the time. When he retired I stepped up to take his place at WSC. We shared the joy of Collingwood and Rolling Stones. I really looked up to him because he was an old fashioned gentleman with zero rudeness toward anyone. I met him when I was 13 but never had him as a teacher. When working together he often baffled me with his wit and unique observations. His band played at my year 12 break up. ‘. He loved to say “wild horses wouldn’t drag me away”. So J.S to quote a rolling stones lyric in a conversation. Years later. I was often referred to as the next J.S. by remaining teachers. WTF!!!!!! A complement . JS had a amazing way of speaking in his own language and unique vernacular. So unique . My condolences to Jo and family. XXXX

Pretty hard to forget a man that treated his students the same way he wanted to be treated. Great memories of JS at WSC with lots of laughs and local Radio 3MFM where he took the teachers hat off and let his true passion for music shine. I was always the show after John, people in the street of Inverloch could hear the Blues and rock music coming out of a so called sound proof studio! A hard act to follow. Sympathy to Joanne and family.

I had a strange experience yesterday, i sold something on FB and the guy came around to pick it up and he said he remembered me from school (a year lower, i still cat remember him) and then he mentioned JS and then sadly the mentioned the passing of JS, hence how i ended up here.

JS was my Graphic design teacher in 1988 and he loved me, he said i was his best student he had ever had and gave me A++ for everything i did (because he said A+ wasn’t enough as was years beyond other students in my grade) he even kept some of my work to show other students.

Anyway he was my favourite teacher all through school not just because he gave me the best marks i ever got, but he was just a relaxed down to earth guy with lots of character, i kind of regret that i never went to an effort to track him down in latter life and have a beer with him. (i dont smoke)

Although I was lucky enough around late 90s early 00’s to met party and hang with his two daughters though (Edge days) long lost contact but it was nice to met them and hear the odd story about him.

So if his daughters are reading this, my heart goes out to you both and i hope you are both doing well and im sure you have many great memories of your father.

    Cheers Mick
