Feisty, but always fair, Edith and I shared a love of politics. I remember how bowled over she was when I.gave her a subscription to Crikey – the political tragics’ news media of choice. Seems so unfair that she was snatched away with Labor looking the likely election winners. How happy that would.have.made her! She’ll be sorely missed by all who knew her and I’ll certainly miss filling my glass and settling in for a long phone call to darling Edith if Albo carries it off.

    Dear Debra, Michael, and Ricky

My deepest and sincerest condolences to you all and your extended families. Your mum was so special to everyone she met because of her kind, intelligent, considerate, and loving nature.

I will forever hold fond childhood memories of Edith’s soft and calming voice of reason and all the care she gave us as kids when I stayed over or visited for those fun BBQs and pool parties. Your mum’s warmth, generosity, and empathy for others knew no bounds (unless they were a politician!).

I had the great fortune to reconnect with your mum several years back and we exchanged numerous opinion pieces from The Age. This was something I enjoyed on my bus ride home from work. As always, being of dry wit, your mum ended most correspondence with some form of a humorous declaration, the last being in 2019 on a Christmas card that ended ‘… and may 2019 bring a change of government!’. No doubt her sentiments would have been just as strong if she were still here with us today.

Vale Edith, you will be deeply and sorely missed by all yet fondly remembered always in our hearts.

    Yours sincerely, Stefan
