Sending much love and Sincere Sympathy to Marg and the Owens family . John was a very special friend of my late dad Ian Mabin and my late mum Dot Mabin. I still remember the good times when I was growing up and our visits to see them. And also the latter years, the phone calls and the roast dinners John and Marg would cook when I came from Melbourne to visit my mum and dad. The biggest honour was watching them both being recognised for their 50 year’s achievement in the Wonthaggi Rotary Club. Thanks for the wonderful memories you have left John and your tireless commitment to help others . You will be missed. xxxooo

Dear Marg, John, Leigh, Jo, Caz and families,
Deepest sympathy on the passing of John. What a wonderful human John was and a greatly respected Community member. Win and myself and our then 3 children, moved from Cowes to Wonthaggi in 1964. It was our good fortune to become close neighbours with John, Marg and family. Lots of fun with kick to kick footy with all the neighbourhood crew, John well known for his ‘toer’ and making the kids battle for the ball. Many wonderful times together. My mother Edith Jeffery also thought the world of John. John was also my very respected footy coach when I played for Phillip Island.
We hold John and all the Owens Family in the highest esteem and with deep fondness. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Gerald, Win, Lynette, Paul, Deb and David Jeffery and families.xoxo

Our thoughts are with Marg and her family on the loss of John, a loving family man and a dynamic community-spirited man known and respected by many in the Wonthaggi area and beyond. Hartley’s connection with Marg and her family, and subsequently with John, goes back to the early mining days of  Wonthaggi when Hartley’s mother, Venie Hartley, and Margaret’s mother Val were best friends.
A memorable farewell for a memorable man.
