Uncle Marty was always there with a big smile and the tightest hugs. He always showed such kindness and would always take time to share a story or two, loved to laugh and it was a privilege having you as an Uncle. He will be sadly missed but forever loved. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family at this difficult and trying time.

    My dearest MP.

As you well know, I never had a brother, but I didn’t need to. I’ve had you – for 45 years of my life.

Memories from my youngest days of you resolving arguments between Donna & I as just kids.

I developed a love for cars at an early age, perhaps it was your totally-cool Bedford van, with awesome flared guards that started it all off. Or could it have been your Vintage-Valiants, or that beautiful white LTD with solid mags & leather interior that I used to feel so proud to travel in – especially when you got the ‘first ever mobile phone’ that was permanently fixed into the centre console – from memory, almost the size of a fax machine at the time – and you had one of those too. Wow, boy did I think you & Donna had it made then. You both worked so damn hard day & night at creating your truck curtain business – you have the brilliant mind of an engineer & the heart of a gentle lion.

You were a genius at maths – a class that I could never get my head around, so you kindly tutored me through the high school years to get me a pass. Luckily, I left all that number stuff to Donna – of which she is brilliant at.

I learnt to drive a stick shift in Donna’s little blue colt, around & around the Knox City carpark early on a Sunday morning we would go – I thanked you for teaching me as I don’t think anyone else wanted to take on that tedious task.

I tagged along on the family holidays with you, Donna & the kids – like our trip to the theme parks on the Gold Coast when the boys were all littlies. For the life of me I have no idea why you wanted to take potpourri away with us on holidays, the hotels we stayed in were lovely & fresh scented.

When we all worked together, Donna & I would play tricks on you & I would answer her mobile & pretend it was her. You told me you loved me as you said goodbye every time. Sometimes I would giggle, come clean & tell you – sometimes I would just pass the message on to Donna.

You were always so grateful for any of the left-overs I’d pack for you to take home after a family dinner or a Christmas lunch.

At just 61, it is a tragedy to have to say goodbye to you, for now. I do hope Dad & Sharyne were waiting for you when you arrived at those pearly gates. My dearest MP – Dit-tah, love.

Though you were my uncle, you were so much more, a guiding hand, a strong presence, a father figure in every way that counted. You gave me wisdom when I needed it, laughter when life felt heavy, and love that I’ll carry with me forever. Some of my fondest memories were made by your side, showing me how to uncomplicated the simple things in life, the stories, the lessons, and the moments that made life brighter. You were dearly loved, deeply admired, and you’ll always live on in the heart you helped shape. Thank you for being there for me, not just as an uncle, but as the man who filled a space that only love could fill.

You will be sorely missed Uncle Marty R.I.P mate
